USF Track and Field shines again with 10 top-10 program marks, five titles & 24 PRs at SDSU Last Chance Meet (2025)

BROOKINGS – The beat goes on with the University of Sioux Falls Track and Field Squad, which again performed at a high level at the SDSU Last Chance Meet at the Sanford-JackRabbit Athletic Complex on Saturday. In total, USF had 10 top-10 program marks, 24 personal-bests (11 by the women, 13 by the men), 30 top-eight placings (16 by the women, 14 by the men) and five titles.

With the NSIC Championships a week away, USF Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Doug Petersen was elated with the performance today and this indoor season from the men's and women's squads.

"It was a great way to end the regular season," said Petersen. "Many of our student-athletes had season-best efforts and now we can take our intensity and determination from today and use it to prepare for the NSIC Indoor Championships next week in Mankato, Minn. The USF coaching staff isvery proud of what these student-athletes have accomplished this indoor season," he said.

Highlights -- Women
Freshman Morgan Gehl continued her standout indoor campaign by recording the second-best clocking indoors ever in program history in the mile run. With a personal-best mark of 5:03.88, she won her first title of her collegiate indoor career. With the personal-best, Gehl bettered her previous time by 6.28 seconds. In the same race, USF had two other runners with personal-bests and one had a top-10 program mark. Freshman Jessica Lutmer was fifth in the mile with her clocking of 5:18.64 ranking ninth all-time at USF and bettering her previous mark by 3.5 seconds. Josie Boyd was eighth in the mile at 5:23.14 which was a personal-best by 11.74 seconds. Aldo recording a personal best was freshman Kayleigh Whipps at 5:25.95, who bettered her own mark by 12.57 seconds.

While Emma Hertz did not set a personal-best, she had another NCAA DII provisional mark in the shot put, finishing second at 14.46 meters – 47-05.25. She also had a provisional mark in winning the weight throw at 19.54 meters – 64-01.25 which was her third title in the event this year.

Sophomore Cassidy O'Meara had a personal-best and a top-10 program mark in winning the 1,000-meter run in 3:04.65. She now ranks fifth all-time at USF in the event. Also in that race, freshman Gracie Bucher was second in 3:05.97 which ranks 10th in USF program history indoors.

For the second straight week, freshman Khot Juac had a top-10 program mark. She won the 3,000-meter run by clocking 10:25.03, which is not only a persona-best but also fourth in USF program history. Freshman Ella Kolb was also sixth in the race at 11:37.82.

KaNya Henderson was third in the 60-meter dash at 7.72 and second in the 200 meter dash in 26.17. Also for USF, Natalie Meyers was seventh in 26.44, which was a personal best.

Highlights - Men
Joseph Donahue had a career-best performance in finishing third in the 60-meter dash at 7.01. The mark by Donahue is tied for seventh all-time at USF with Nate Andrusick in 2020 and Chris Duffey in 1995. In the same race, Xavier Blackwell clocked a personal-best of 7.28 to finish sixth in the finals. Donahue also finished second in the 200-meter dash by clocking 22.38 which ranks third all-time at USF. Blackwell was seventh in the same race with a PR of 22.83 which ranks eighth in school history indoors.

Also in the short sprints, USF had another program top-10 mark as sophomore Ben Mandel finished fourth in 8.29 in the 60-meter hurdles. However, he had an 8.26 clocking in the prelims which is a personal-best and ranks fourth all-time at USF.

Sophomore Tyler Hiatt again led USF in the shot put with his third title of the season and another NCAA DII provisional mark. However, he was just off his personal-best as he had a toss of 17.15 meters – 56-03.14, which is just short of 17.33 meters – 56-10.75 which he threw at the NSIC and Friends Indoor Challenge on Feb. 12. Also in the shot put, Jaymeson Wolkow was sixth with a personal-best of 14.81 meters-48-07.25.

In the men's 1,000, Caleb Rivera led two USF runners in the top four by claiming third in 2:32.06, which ranks eighth all-time in program history and eighth in the NSIC. Ethan Kraft was fourth in 2:36.39 with a personal-best that was nearly five seconds better than his previous mark of 2:41.23.
